MR. FRANK JOHNSON, FATHER OF THE LATE F.C. JOHNSON, HIGH CONSTABLE OF THIS CITTY, DIED AT HIS RESIDENCE IN NORFOLK ON FRIDAY NIGHT. HE WAS 75 YRS. OLD.

A TELEGRAM WAS REC'D ON YESTERDAY MORNING BY MR. JOHN KELLEY, FROM FATHER FRIOLI, ANNOUNCING THE DEATH OF HIS MOTHER , MARGARET FRIOLI IN KEYSER W. VA. WHICH TOO PLACE ON THE 30TH. SHE WAS 60 YRS OF AGE.

THE FUNERAL OF MR. WILLIAM T. BKER, WHOSE DEATH WE MENTIONED IN OUR SUNDAY PAPER, TOOK PLACE SUNDAY AFTERNOON FROM CENTRAL M.E. CHURCH & WAS LARGELY ATTEND. THE SVC WERE CONDUCTED BY  REV. F.M. EDWARDS, AT THE CONCLUSION OF WHICH THE REMIANS WERE TAKEN TO OAK GROVE CEMETERY FOR INTERMENT.

THE FUNERAL OF MRS. ELIZA  J. PARRISH, STEP MOTHER OF DR. JAMES PARRISH, WHO DIED ON SAT. NIGHT AT 11:30AM TOOK PLACE YESTERDAY MORNIG FROM THE COURT ST. PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH. THE SERVICES WERE CONDUCTED BY REV. R.F. MUMURRAN, AFTER WHICH THE REMAINS WERE INTERRED IN CEDAR GROVE CEMETERY.

MRS. PAULINA, WIFE OF MR. EDWARD WIESDORF & MOTHER OF CAPTAIN FRED WIESDORF, DIED SUNDAY MORNING AT 12:3OPM AFTER AN ILLNESS OF 5 DAYS FROM PARALYSIS. MRS. WIESDORF WAS WELL KNOWN IN THE COMMUNITY HAVING LIVED HERE & BEEN ENGAGED IN BUSINESS FOR A GREAT MANY YEARS HER. FUNERAL WILL TAKE PLACE THIS AFTERNOON AT 3PM FROM THE RESIDENCE OF HER HUSBAND.

IT IS WITH REGRET THAT WE ANNOUNCE THE DEATH OF MRS. ROSELIA THERESA SMITH, WIFE OF MR. WILLIAMSON SMITH, A FORMER LT. OF THE POLICE FORCE. MRS. S. HAS BEEN SICK FOR MORE THAN A MONTH WITH A COMPLICATION OF DISEASES & ON SAT HER FRIENDS THOUGHT THAT SHE WAS GREATLY IMPROVED, BUT ON YESTERDAY MORNING AT AN EARLY HR DEATH CAME & CLAIMED FOR FOR HIS VICTIM. SHE WAS A CONSISTENT MEMBER OF ST. PAUL'S CATHOLIC CHURCH, & LEAVES A HUSBAND &6 CHILDREN TO MOURN HER LOSS.

PASS ASSISTANT ENGINEER THOMAS COOPER , WHO WAS HURT 3 WKS AGO BY FALLING DOWN THE COMMPANION WAY OF THE MONITOR AJAX AT CITY POINT & AFTER WARDS BROUGHT UP TO THE NAVAL HOSPITAL, DIED ABOUT 4PM SUNDAY AFTERNOON.

THE FUNERAL SERVICES OF JAMES R. BAKER TOOK PLACE YESTERDAY EVENING. EVERY BUSINES S HOUSE IN TOWN WAS CLOSED TO SHOW THEIR RESPECT FOR THE DECASED BROTHER MERCHANT.  EMAIL FOR REST.

FOR SOME TIME THE DEATH OF MR. JESSEE BROWNLEY HAS BEEN LOOKED FOR, HE HAVING BEEN STRICKEN WITH PARALYSIS ABOUT 3 WKS AGO. MR. B. WAS ONE OF OUR MOST RESPECTED CITIZENS HAVING BEEN ELECTED 3 CONSECUTIVE TERMS AS KEEPER  OF CEDAR GROVE CEMETERY, WHICH POSITION HE HAD AT THE TIME OF HIS DEATH. HE WAS 75 YRS. OLD. THE FUNERAL OF MRS. ROSA T. SMITH TOOK PLACE YESTERDAY AFTERNOON AT 3PM FROM THE RESIDENCE OF HER HUSBAND. MR. WILLIAM SMITH, NO 1009 WASHINGTON ST & WAS VERY LARGELY ATTENDED.
THE SVC WAS CONDUCTED BY REV. F. M. EDWARDS.THE REMAINS WERE TAKEN TO CEDAR GROVE FOR INTERMENT.

LAST NIGHT @7:30PM MRS. TABITHA VIRNELSON A WELL KNOWN & MUCH BELOVED OLD LADY DIED AT THE RESIDENCE OF HER SON IN LAW, MR. JOHN C. HERBERT ON THE CORNER OF EFFINGHAM & LONDON STREETS. AGE 76. EMAIL FOR REST.

WE ARE INDEED SORRY TO HAVE TO RECORDED THE DEATH OF ALLEN DARDEN, WHOSE ILLNESS WE HAVE MENTIONED IN THIS COLUMN, THE ONLY SON OF MR. A.S. DARDEN. HE WAS TAKEN SICK AT RANDOLPH MACON, WHERE HE HAD BEEN AN ESTEEMED STUDENT FOR SEVERAL SESSIONS. WHEN HE CAME HOME LAST SAT, IT WAS FOUND HE HAD TYPHOID FEVER OF A RAPID TYPE, WHICH RESULTED IN DEATH AT 1:30PM YESTERDAY. DECEASED WAS 19 YRS OLD. HIS SORROWING PARENTS, DEVOTED SISTER & OTHER FRIENDS HAVE OUR SYMPATHY. FUNERAL AT THIS WRITING NOT DETERMINED ON.

HIS REMAINS WILL BE TAKEN THIS MORNING TO PRINCESS ANNE COUNTY & INTERRED IN THE FAMILY GRAVEYARD, THE OBSEQUIES BEING IN CHARGE OF THE L.D. BREVERT MAJOR GENERAL QUINCY A. GILMORE, COLONEL OF ENGINEERS & CHIEF ENGINEERS U.S. ARMY DIED IN NY AT 5AM. HE WAS BORN IN OHIO FEB 1825, & APPOINTED TO WEST POINT IN 1845. HE GRADUCATED IN 1849, AND SUCCESSIVELY ROSE TO THE RANK OF COL, FEB. 1883. HE COMMANDED THE LAND FORCES IN THE SIEGE OF CHARLESTON & WROTE A COMPREHENSIVE HISTORY OF THE SIEGE & ALWAYS FAVORED A LARGE APPRIATIONG FOR CHARLESTON JETTIES, & WAS HIGHLY ESTEEMED HERE.
