HIS GALLANTRY WAS FREQUENTLY CONSPICUOUS AND SOME YEARS AGO THE BOARD OF INSURANCE UNDERWRITERS AWARDED HIM A HANDSOME GOLD BADGE AS AN AWARD FOR BRAVERY EXHIBITED DURING A FIRE AT SCHWARZKOPFS STORE ON MAIN STREET. HIS FUNERAL WILL TAKE PLACE SUNDAY AFTERNOON FROM THIS LATE RESIDENCE ON SCOTT STREET. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT WILL PARTICIPATE.

It becomes our painful duty to record this morning the death of WILLIAM H. LANGLEY (40 YEARS) a well known citizen of NORFOLK. Who departed this life on SUNDAY AT 1PM. At his late residence on WASHINGTON STREET. He was a good citizen and a galiant soldier of the late war during which he served in COMPANY F. OF NORFOLK 6TH VA REGIMENT. He was the first to take up arms in the service of his state and served with courage throughout the greater portion of the fruitless struggle. IN OCT 1864 HE WAS CAPTURED AT THE BURGESS MILL FIGHT AND REMAINED A PRISONER AT POINT LOOKOUT FOR 8 MONTHS. FUNERAL WILL TAKE PLACE FROM THE RESIDENCE OF THIS BROTHER JOHN R. LANGLEY 34 WASHINGTON STREET 11AM.

Another colored military company under the name of the SEABOARD ELLIOTT GREYS was formally mustered into the STATE MILITIA BY CAPTAIN HENRY C. HUDGINS OF THE OLD DOMINION GUARDS, yesterday afternoon at 5pm. The ceremony took place on EFFINGHAM STREET and was witnessed by a large crowd of citizens and a number of the OLD DOMINION GUARDS. The company numbered about 50 men and were under the command of first LIEUT. JAMES A. CORPREW. The following list is a list of officers of the SEABOARD ELLIOT GREYS:

WHTIEHED WAS THE SON OF THE LATE COLONEL WILLIAM WHITEHEAD OF SUFFOLK WHO DIED ABOUT A YEAR AGO IN NEW ORLEANS. HE ENTERED THE CONFEDERATE ARMY AT THE BEGINING OF THE WAR SERVED GALLANTLY AND RECEIVED A WOUND AT GAINES MILL FROM WHICH HE NEVER ENTIRELY RECOVERED.  HE WAS A MEMBER OF OWENS LODGE AND HIS FUNERAL WILL BE ATTENED BY THE MASONIC ORDERS OF THIS CITY. HE WAS 40 YEARS OLD.

YESTERDAY MORNING BETWEEN 7 & 8 AM THE BODY OF THE COLORED BOY, BUB DAUGHTREY WHO FELL OVERBOARD SOME TWO WEEKS AGO FROM THE SLOOP MAID QUEEN AND WAS DROWNED CAME ASHORE NEAR THE HOSPITAL WOODS AND WAS DISCOVERED BY A COLORED MAN NAMED BUCK ELLIOTT. THEY BODY WAS SO MUCH DECOMPOSED THAT I HAD TO BE INTERRED ON THE BEACH WHERE IT CAME ASHORE. ELLIOTT RECOGNIZED THE DROWNED BOY BY HIS CLOTHING.

THE FOLLOWING DISPATCH WAS TAKEN FROM THE NY STAR EXPLAINS THE ORIGIN OF THE RUMOR THAT YOUNG JOSEPH WOOLEY HAD DIED

ON CHRISTMAS MORNING AN OLD COLORED WOMAN NAMED SUSAN SAVAGE WAS BURNED TO DEATH IN A HOUSE IN BRAMBLETON OWNED BY JUDGE GEORGE S. OLDFIELD. SHE HAD BEEN LYING ON THE FLOOR SMOKING A PIPE PREVIOUS TO HER DEATH.
