CANNEDAY IS A YOUNG MAN ABOUT 22 YEARS OF AGE AND PROTESTS HIS INNOCENT. HE WAS ARREST AT MICHIGAN CITY WHERE HE WAS LIVING UNDER THE ASSUMED NAME OF JOHN GOOLSBY.

A COLORED MAN NAMED BILL BAILEY CAPTAIN OF A WOOD LIGHTER FELL OVER BOARD AND WAS DROWNED WHILE ATTEMPTING TO CARRY HIS LIGHTER THROUGHT THE DRAW OF THE BRIDGE LEADING TO FERRY POINT. HE WAS ENDEAVERING AT THE TIME TO FEND THE LIGHTER FORM THE PILES WHEN MISSING HIS HOLD HE FELL. AND STRIKING HIS HEAD AGAINST A POST WAS RENDERED SENSELESS.  AN EFFORT WAS MADE TO SAVE HIM BY AN OLD COLORED MAN NAMED GEORGE JACKSON WHO WAS ON THE LIGHTER AT THE TIME BUT WITHOUT AVAIL.

Captain Adams was for over 30 years engaged in the packet business between Norfolk and Smithfield which at one time transacted an extensive trade. after the war he established the first steam line between the two places personally managing the same until ill health caused him to withdraw from the laborous duties which it entailed.

BONFORD FOR MANY YEARS A PROMINENT DRY GOODS MERCHANT OF THS CITY WHICH OCCURED ON MONDAY THE 5TH INSTANT. MR. BONFORD WAS 92. HE WAS A NATIVE OF SAN DOMINGO AND CAME TO OUR CITY WITH MANY OTHER FRENCH FAMILIES DURING THE REVOLUTION IN THAT COUNTRY. HE RESIDED HERE FOR UPWARDS OF 40 YEARS. WHEN HE TOOK UP HIS RESIDENCE IN NEW ORLEANS WHERE HE HAS RESIDED FOR 25 YEARS.

HER FUENRAL TOOK PLACE FROM THE FIRST PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH YESTERDAY.

YESTERDAY MORNING THE STEAMER VIRGINIA, CAPT. HUNTER OF THE CLYDE LINE,  PLYING BETWEEN CHARLESTON AND PHILADELPHIA PUT IN THIS PORT FOR SOME SLIGHT REPAIRS TO HER MACHINERY. SHE HAD ON BOARD THE REMAINS OF EDWARD FELTER ONE OF THE OILERS WHO LOST HIS LIFE BY BEING CAUGHT IN THE MACHINERY OF THIS STEAMER MONDAY WHILE ENGAGED IN THE PERFORMANCE OF HIS DUTY.
