IN PORTSMOUTH SUNDAY AFTERNOON, MARY ELLA DAUGHTER OF MATTHEW M. AND MARY ANN DODD ABOUT 3 YEARS OF AGE.

ACTING LIEUT. HENRY ST. GEORGE HUNTER OF THE U.S. NAVY DIED ON BOARD THE US STEAMER HANCOCK NEAR FOU CHOU FOU CHINA ON 09.24. WE BELIEVE HE WAS A VIRGINIA NATIVE.

ON THE 26TH INSTANT AT 11PM. THOMAS W. SOUTHALL YOUNGEST SON OF MRS. WILLIAM S. MALLORY AGE 12.

WE ANNOUCE WITH FEELINGS OF PAINFUL INTEREST AND UNFEIGNED REGRET, THE DEATH OF WRIGHT SOUTHGATE THIS VENERABLE AND HIGHLY RESPECTED CITIZEN. WHICH OCCURED YESTERDAY AT 12NOON. THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS HAD MET AND JUST CONCLUDED THE BUSINESS OF THE MORNING WHEN MR. S. WHO WAS IN HIS USUAL HEALTH AND SITTING IN HIS CHAIR AT HIS DESK, IN THE DIRECTORS ROOM, WAS SUDDENLY ATTACKED RECLINED HIS HEAD AND WAS IMMEDIATELY A CORPSE SINKING DOWN ALMOST INSTANTLY IN DEATH'S COLD AND UNYIELDING EMBRACE. DR. WILLIAM SELDEN WHO HAPPENED IN THE HOUSE AT THE TIME PRONOUNCED HIM DEAD IN TWO OR THREE MINUTES AFTER THE ATTACK. THERE WAS PROBABLY SOME DERANGEMENT OF THE HEART. MR. SOUTHGATE WAS AN ENGLISHMAN AND CAME TO NORFOLK IN THE LATER PART OF THE LAST CENTURY.... ENGAGED IN MERCANTILE ...... CASHIER OF THE EXCHANGE BANK ...... HE WAS NEARLY 80 YEARS OF AGE. MRS. S. SURVIVES HIM. THEY WERE MARRIED NEARLY 60 YEARS.

ON THE EVENING OF THE 24TH INSTANT AT THE RESIDENCE OF HIS SON. MR. CHARLES WILLIAM DAVIS, AGE 75. THE DECEASED WAS BORN IN WALES, BUT FOR THE LAST 42 YEARS A RESIDENT OF THIS CITY. HE HAD BEEN SUFFERING FROM ANATTACK OF PARALYSIS FOR OVER 18 EYARS.

WE LEARN THAT ONE OF THE MOST DISGRACEFUL AFFRAYS ENDING IN THE DEATH OF P. MCGAWAN THE MAIL AGENT ON THE RALEIGH & GASTON ROAD OCCURED IN WELDON YESTERDAY. IT APPEARS THAT A MAN BY THE NAME OF EVERETT , HIS SON AND ONE BY THE NAME OF PRICE, FOLLOWED THE AGENT FROM GASTON TO WELDON. AND THERE THEY DELIBERATELY SHOT HIM DOWN ON ACCOUNT OF SOME TRANSACTIONS.

IT WAS WITH PAIN AND GRIEF THAT WE ANNOUNCED THE DEATH OF MISS NANNIE MURFEE 2ND DAUGHTER OF J.W. MURFEE IN THE 20TH YEAR OF HER AGE A FEW DAYS AGO, IT IS NOW WITH FEELINGS OF ANQUISH WE ANNOUNCE THE DEATH OF ANOTHER. THE THIRD DAUGHTER , MISS JOSEPHINE MURFEE IN THE 17TH YEAR OF HER AGE AFTER LINGERING ILLNESS OF 11 WEEKS OF TYPHOID FEVER.
