THE QUEENS COUNTY SENTINEL BEGAN PUBLICATION AS A WEEKY NEWSPAPER IN 1858,
WITH OFFICES IN HEMPSTEAD NY. WHEN QUEENS COUNTY WAS INCORPORATED INTO GREATER NY IN JAN 1898, PART OT THE COUNTY SEPARATED. ON JAN 1, 1899, THE SEPARATED PORTION WAS RENAMED NASSAU COUNTY.
AT SOME TIME AFTER THAT DATE THE PAPER CHANGED ITS NAME TO THE HEMPSTEAD SENTINEL. THE LAST EDITION OF THE QUEENS COUNTY SENTINEL
