I'VE GOT to fix this page, been a little lazy lately, busy with installing obits and marriage info on the site. I have been working on it almost every day.
If someone lives near a cemetery, would you be willing to take some pics of the older tombstones?

I was at the library this am, gathering more more obits & marriage from the microfische.
There is an elderly guy sitting next to me and at a glance it looks like he's doing census. you know large handwritting on white background.
So i started a convo about (because i was looking a newspapers of obit after obit of infants) and i was thinking that if you had a kid in 1874 and he/she died, the person researching would never know unless they found a grave, because the kid would not show up in a census.
So anyway, I trying to be "full of myself" was explaining that i'm the admin of the pac and norfolk sites and i do all this stuff to help others and we talked about the merging of the cities counties etc....
so like i'm miss know it all right? WRONG!
so then this elderly gentleman explains he is researching land records, and i'm like why?
ok i mean there are people out there that do that, but i mean for family tree stuff.... well any way....
he went on to explain that he's fighting the city over some extremely valuable land down at the ocean front........... and he asks for help trying to read that old english script.....
and his ancestors name? ADAM THOROWGOOD............. i'm like (to myself, oh sh......)
like who am i to give a lecture about counties etc and history when his ancestor is the VERY FIRST land owner.........................in the county?
and yes he was right and i was wrong, see in my mind it's always been pac, but technically it was norfolk for about 90 years give or take , as pac came into being in 1691.....................
so between being embarrased.....about trying to be knowledgeable and all .....and then ..i'm like, i can't believe the city is making him prove owner ship all the way back to 1624............... gee wiz................. nice city i live in................

I've been busy this month in adding obits, marriage announcements and other interesting tidbits from the Norfolk Virginian Paper for the early years 1869- forward.
Plus oneday soon I hope I will venture into Norfolk and get some of the older papers too.

OBITS FOR 1869-1871 HAVE BEEN ADDED TO VIRGINIA.

Found another book on black genealogy, looked good. Next time I go back to library will have to make a note of the name and author. It looks like a 2 vol. set of genealogy or family trees.
Also going through the Virginia Pilot for marriage and death notices.

I would like to take the time to recommend two books for Black History.
1. Free Blacks in Norfolk Virginia 1790-1860 by Tommy L. Bogger
2. Black History our Heritage Princess Anne County, Virginia Beach VA.

So I am trying to put Black History info on the site.
There seems to be two things missing from the local libraries here.
1. Black History
2. West Va History.
Wierd huh?
Goodwill the largest employer of handicapped people in the state of va. is laying them off.................. go figure.............................
