SAMUEL B. HOFFMAN WAS ARRAIGNED AT THE WASHINGTON PLACE POLICE COURT ON A CHARGE HAVING SHOT JOHN T. NEWWBOLD OF 79 BANK STREET, IN THE ARM CAUSING A PAINFUL WOUND. HOFFMAN PLEADED THAT THE SHOOTING WAS ACCIDENTAL, AND WAS COMMITED TO ANSWER IN DEFAUL OF THE 1,000 BAIL.

BRIDGET CONNELL, A WELL DRESS WOMAN, WHO SAID SHE RESIDED IN EAST 11TH ST, WAS ARRAIGNED AT THE 47TH ST. POLICE COURT YESTERDAY ON COMPLAINT OF JENNIE TEASDALE, OF NO.L 101 WEST 48TH ST, WHO CHARGED HER WITH ENTERING HER RESIDENCE & STEALING $400 WORTH OF JEWELRY, JUSTICE KASMIRE COMMITTED HER TO ANSWER IN DEFAULT OF $2000 BAIL.

ON LONG ISLAND: WILLIAM H. MR. ANDREW DE BEVOISE, A FARMER IN GOOD CIRCUMSTANCES LIVING ON WHAT IS KNOWN AS THE BACK ROAD, NEAR THE ROCKAWAY JUNCTION OF THE SOUTHERN RAILROAD, VISITED JAMAICA VILLAGE ON THE NIGHT OF THE 4TH OF JULY TO SEE THE FIREWORKS. ON HIS RETURN HOME, IT BEING A MOONLIGHT NIGHT, HE WAKED UP TO THE RAILROAD TO LOOK AT HIS GRAIN FIELDS AND BEING CONSIDERABLY DEAF DID NOT NOTICE THAT A FRIEGHT TRAIN WAS APPROACHING FROM BEHIND. THE LOCOMOTIVE STRUCK HIM AND KNOCKED HIM FROM THE TRACK, INJRIES HIM INTERNALLY. IT IS DOUBFUL WHETHER HE WILL RECOVER.
